History of the Fluke for Luke event
Luke Gurney was a commercial fisherman on Martha’s Vineyard who died tragically while out fishing. Luke was an avid fisherman from his early days. He moved to Martha’s Vineyard and began a business as a commercial fisherman of whelk and has a wife and two sons who still live in Oaks Bluff.
Funds from the event’s registration and silent auction, as well as other donations, raise money to pay for Luke’s sons to go to college. Currently, Mr. Gurney’s eldest son Jacob is entering his junior year at the University of Rhode Island, while his younger son Sam is still attending high school on the Island.
